Dr Zahid Sheikh is a Consultant Anaesthetist and has worked at Royal Derby Hospital since 2002. He has a special interest in post-operative pain control and in Ultrasound (US) Guided Regional Anaesthesia. He was trained in Lvov in Ukraine and obtained higher specialist training in the United Kingdom.
Zahid has worked in multiple other countries including Australia, Pakistan and the UAE. He is a permanent member of the Pakistan Society of Anaesthetists and is heavily involved in the teaching and training of US guided regional anaesthesia in the UK and Pakistan.
He is a permanent faculty member and invited speaker on various national and International courses and meetings on Regional Anaesthesia. He is the clinical supervisor for the fellows in Regional Anaesthesia trainees in Derby and an organiser of the Annual Derby US guided Regional Anaesthesia course and the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia course on Regional Anaesthesia techniques. Furthermore, he has worked towards the improvement in clinical governance and quality of patient care by regularly performing and supervising clinical audits and surveys. Zahid, in his spare time, likes to watch cricket, visit historical sites and collect coins. He has in his collection Russian Roubles which date back to the time of the Tsars of Russia!
Zahid envisages providing a very high standard of anaesthesia care for the patients coming to the Midland Doctors Medical Institute (MDMI) for surgery. He is keen to deploy modern methods of post-operative pain control in patients following surgery. He is heavily involved in teaching and training of junior doctors and the members of staff the art of safe Regional Anaesthesia which allows patients to undergo surgical procedures without having General Anaesthesia. The Department of Anaesthesia at MDMI is being developed to a very high standard and is equipped with the most modern state of the art equipment that continuous to provide safe anaesthesia to patients and teaching and training to the junior doctors.
During his visits to the MDMI, Zahid has devoted his time in training staff safe techniques of recovery and post -operative care including effective pain relief for patients following surgery.
