This is the first urology department established in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the only urology facility north of Islamabad, ensuring patients no longer need to travel countless hours for treatment.
Renal and urological diseases are very much prevalent in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), therefore, there was a compelling need to develop this department. MDMI was very fortunate to acquire services of a fully trained highly skilled Urologist (Dr Naeem Ahmed).
The department was provided with state-of-the-art endoscopic equipment for endoscopic prostate surgery, ureteroscopy surgery for ureteric and renal calculus. The unit also regularly performs percutaneous nephrolithotomy i.e. shattering and removal of kidney stones. Last year we added a percutaneous lithotripter machine, inaugurated at Midland Doctors Medical Institute, Muzaffarabad by Mr Faujdar Butt, a school teacher by profession. The Lithotripter will serve the 3 million population of AJK to shatter and dissolve kidney stone with surgery.
Prior to the opening of this department, as there was no urology department in the region, patients would be required to travel to Islamabad for treatment. Not only would this be costly, it would also be incredibly taxing for the patient with Islamabad being an approximately four-hour journey by road from Muzaffarabad. MDMI’s urology department is now the only such facility in AJK and we are pleased patients no longer have to travel to Islamabad for such treatment. We are also in the process of starting the use of laser treatment in urology.
How can I help Midland Doctors®?
We are always in need of donations to help run our charity hospital in Muzaffarabad whilst also participating in many other charitable projects across the world. Of course, not all contributions are monetary. Your time and effort to help fundraise, manage and drive our organisation forward will always be welcomed and appreciated!
